I'll bet if they put this in those meals they wouldn't want to ban them.
Marketing to impressionable kids is what is at issue.
There are questions about the ability of children so young to understand advertising and its intent and not be deceived and manipulated by it. Experts say that children don't understand persuasive intent until they are eight or nine years old and that it is unethical to advertise to them before then. According to Karpatkin and Holmes from the Consumers Union, "Young children, in particular, have difficulty in distinguishing between advertising and reality in ads, and ads can distort their view of the world." Additionally children are unable to evaluate advertising claims.

Because kids have no idea what partially hydrogenated soybean oil is. Or what high fructose corn syrup is. They generally also don't know what triglycerides are, or the difference between HDL and LDL cholesterol.
Not that most adults appear to be bright enough to know all that, either, but at least with adults, there is nobody to blame but themselves. It's unfair to a child that they should suffer the consequences of their irresponsible parents who don't see anything wrong with feeding their kids the supersize me diet.
And when the kids health suffers, the grades drop, and the kids get bullied for being fat, the parents typically blame the teachers, and blame schools for not devoting more time to PE classes....
There certainly does appear to be a paradox involved here. While smoking weed is OK (its dangerous effects on human health notwithstanding), toys in Happy Meals for kids are not OK, even though they have no effect on the health, unless they are swallowed. (I think that this is an indirect method of lowering the number of people who go for fast food, which the food police aren't too fond of anyway.) While I don't eat at McDonald's, I can't help but notice this seeming paradox.

I find it funny that they are supposedly concerned about the health of these kids, yet smoking marijuana isn't healthy. they also feel you should have the right to abort a child, it's your body and nobody should be allowed to tell you what to do with it. But the toys in happy meals are evil. total hypocrisy.
I think that if McDonald's puts weed in the happy meals it would all be good. Maybe everyone in SF should hand their children over to the SF government the moment they are born. Since obviously nobody is capable of teaching their kids right from wrong. Only the San Francisco government can do it properly.
I think making weed legal and taxed would be a good idea, but I don't want to smoke it. Never have. I couldn't care less about the McDonald's Happy meal toys. They are sexist anyway. At least they were when my daughters were little. They got that lame plastic doll statue and boys got a car.
I want weed to be legal and I am a liberal, don't hate me just because your unable to change. But I have never heard of people wanting to ban Happy Meal toys. I can see why, but I've never even heard of it.
Liberals hate children and jobs which is why they want everyone to have abortions and want to close McDonald's because then it will eliminate all chances of them having to stop getting high and go to work.
Because when they have the munchies and are high they can not resist getting a happy meals but they get freaked out by the taking toys and hypnotized by the moving ones. It ruins their high.
Kids needs to grow the hell up already and eat some Long John Silver's. Now that will put hair on your chest and make you a real hardcore rooter tooter!
