Why is it not okay for McDonald's to have toys in happy meals?

i have heard that in some parts in california it is banned but why is it okay for McDonald's to sell unhealthy food to kids, but its not okay to offer toys with their meals? how can it be unlawful for them to make their unhealthy food more appealing to the kids? and do you think it would be different if a healthy food chain would do the same? Why is it not okay for McDonald's to have toys in happy meals?

View the toy as a bribe to get kids in the door to buy the food. It is pretty obvious that the true blame belongs on the parents inability to say 'no'. But, with juvenile obesity and diabetes at an all time high, some cities are using local regulations to try and temper some abuse.

It's only prohibited in San Francisco. And even there, I'm not sure that it actually passed--it may still just be a proposed law. The (proposed) law doesn't outright ban toys in happy meals. It bans toys offered in meals which do not meet certain nutritional requirements. The supporters believe that the law will encourage kids to choose the "healthy" meal that has the toy instead of the "unhealthy" one that doesn't have a toy. Though they have absolutely no evidence to support that conclusion. Why is it not okay for McDonald's to have toys in happy meals?
The most publicized ban was one imposed by San Francisco in November 2010.

It's not unlawful to make food appealing. But it's perfectly lawful to pass laws that restrict what companies can do, and what ordinary citizens can do. It's done all the time. That's why we have helmet laws, seatbelt laws, and a host of other nanny-type laws on the books.

San Francisco is the leader in nutty laws because the whole bay area is governed by nutty politicians.
Because they know the food is unhealthy and they are using the toys as means of trickery to get children to buy the happy meal. It's not about the toy, it's about why they include the toy.
Those are so you keep coming back. Basic psychology stuff dude. Also you can look back and sing when you are older, with diabetes, and fit in the athletic group for over 300+, "...I'm loving it."
It is part of the anti-obesity drive. Kids want to go to McDonalds sometimes because of the toys rather than the food.
Big Government just taking another right away from us since the Obamas I guess dont like McDonalds. Im sure Palin will do a better job when she replaces them in 12.
Kids eat toys, they choke and since it can be proven they choked from a toy from mcdonalds they are now being sued for millions
Because crappy meals suck. Why can't I get a lottery ticket with every pack of smokes I buy?
